EMS-GRILTECH – Worldwide Represented

EMS-GRILTECH is a Business Unit of EMS-CHEMIE AG which is part of the EMS-CHEMIE HOLDING AG. The corporate offices, research and development, technical service centre and production facilities are located in Domat/Ems (Switzerland). Additional production plants and technical service centres are located in Neumünster (Germany) and Sumter, SC (USA). EMS-GRILTECH – Polymers for Exceptional Demands

We manufacture and sell GRILON, NEXYLON and NEXYLENE fibers and GRILTEX thermoplastic adhesives. We have developed these polymer materials and additives into outstanding specialty products for technically demanding applications. In this way we create added value for our customers who enjoy success in their own markets through continuous improvement.

Thermoplastic Adhesives from EMS

Our specially developed GRILTEX thermoplastic adhesives are used in a wide range of applications such as automotive, filtration, home textiles, apparel interlinings, packaging, transfer labels and medical. The development of new polymers creates opportunities to enter new markets outside the field of textiles.

Metal, glass, PVC, PET as well as other materials with a smooth surface are examples of new applications where thermoplastic GRILTEX adhesives are used. Other new application areas are composite materials where GRILTEX products are used as matrix material or as binder and toughening agent.

We are working continuously with our customers on market-driven solutions. Our products fulfill all requirements for environmental compatibility, recycling and fast process cycle times. FDA approval as well as REACH conformity is the added benefit of GRILTEX products and are available on request.

Specialty Fibers from EMS

GRILON are technical fibers and fusible bonding yarns. EMS-GRILTECH focuses on the production of technical low melt fibers made from copolyamides and copolyesters, bicomponent fibers and polyamide fibers (PA6/PA66) e.g. for the paper machine industry or abrasives. By using our thermoplastic bonding and separation yarns textile components and composites may easily be bonded together and knitted fabrics can be separated. This leads to shorter production times, lower unit costs and improved products.

NEXYLON are technical fibers made of polyamide (PA66) for high demanding nonwovens and spun yarns.

NEXYLENE is a high performance fiber for hot gas filtration made of polyphenylene sulfide (PPS).

NEWS / INNOVATIONS

Highly Flexible GRILTEX Copolyester Adhesives

The newly developed and highly flexible GRILTEX copolyesters are suitable for textiles with soft touch as well as for technical applications with high bonding requirements. These copolyesters are available in a melting range from 100-150 °C. High viscosity versions can be used for the manufacture of adhesive films and webs.

GRILTEX ES to Bond on Even Surfaces

Our new GRILTEX copolyesters are used for the bonding of even surfaces such as aluminium or other metal alloys or PET. The flexible character of these adhesives can compensate or minimize the tension between substrates with different expansion coefficients. GRILTEX copolyesters are available with different viscosities in the melting range of 70-150 °C.

GRILTEX CE for Composite Applications

Under the trade name GRILTEX CE, EMS-GRILTECH supplies specifically developed polymers which make handling much easier. Developed for an epoxy matrix, this product can also be used with other thermoset materials. GRILTEX CE stabilizes fiber structures or tapes and prevents shifting of fibers in resin transfer moulding processes (RTM). The product does not need a curing time and it is possible that several fiber layers can be bonded onto each other and processed in only one step.

GRILTEX CE is more than just a binder. At the same time it is a toughening agent that strikingly improves mechanical properties of the composite finished part. GRILTEX CE exhibits maximum compatibility with epoxy resins, thus creating a strong bond.

GRILTEX CT for Composite Applications

EMS-GRILTECH even goes a step further. With GRILTEX CT, EMS offers high-performance thermoplastic materials, which can replace costly and time intensive thermoset systems. Composite fiber-reinforced sheets can be pre-manufactured using GRILTEX CT and fiber material. During a further processing step these sheets are heated for a short time and shaped into any required form. Such composite parts require no curing, they allow very short cycle times for manufacture of composite components and thus they are suitable for bulk serial production.

Polyamide Fibers for High Performance Paper Machine Clothing

EMS-GRILTECH is worldwide market leader with fibers for the paper machine clothing. Chemical and mechanical resistant fibers and many other product features for the PMC application and manufacturing is the key for our success.

NEXYLON FR for Protective Apparel and Workwear

With NEXYLON FR, EMS-GRILTECH brings the world's first flame-retardant polyamide fiber onto the market. Using this fiber, the working life of flame-resistant protective work clothing can be significantly increased. Additional interesting applications include carpets.

NEXYLON HT a High Tenacity Fiber

HT stands for High Tenacity. NEXYLON HT is a polyamide fiber with high tenacity. It is mainly used to improve the abrasion resistance of cotton fabrics. With NEXYLON HT not only the stress resistance of the fabric can be improved also the working life can be extended.

GRILON Fibers and Melt Bonding Yarns for Composites

EMS-GRILTECH presents a large range of products as fibers, yarns and adhesives for composites. These products are used as production aids, as additives, as matrix or fiber reinforcements in composite parts.

For the reinforcement of unidirectional tapes as well as for stabilizing of multiply woven or knitted fabrics, EMS-GRILTECH has developed special GRILON yarns.These products are mainly used in the RTM process (resin transfer moulding). The impact strength of the final composite will be strongly improved.

GRILON Bicomponent Fibers for Stabilization of Wood Insulation

Together with a large plant manufacturer EMS-GRILTECH has developed a new bicomponent melt bonding fiber for the stabilization of wood fiber insulation as flexible batts or rigid boards. The advantage of the fiber is the high bonding strength with the wet wood fiber and the low activating temperature with steam. With high energy efficiency the material can be activated quickly.

NEXYLON Coarse Fibers for Abrasives

The production of coarse fibers > 100 dtex is a demanding technology. Our new coarse polyamide fibers (PA66) are preferred in high quality abrasives. The fibers are extremely resistant against cleaning agents and chemicals and exhibit long continued abrasion resistance. The fiber remains strong during manufacturing and end use.

NEXYLENE for Nonwovens with Food Contact

NEXYLENE is a fiber made of polyphenylene sulfide (PPS), which is very heat resistant and mainly used in hot gas filtration. A new application is a nonwoven in the bakery with food contact.
