The music of Graubünden-based formation "The Mountain Rat Pack", transported the shareholders and guests to New York and Las Vegas of the 1960s. The band leaders, Jörg Guyan (alias Frank Sinatra), André Renggli (alias Sammy Davies Junior) and Hampa Rest (alias Dean Martin), together with the "Allegra Big Band" under the direction of Carlo Schöb, gave the Annual General Meeting a swinging setting with their timeless music.
Further highlights again this year were the innovations using EMS high-performance polymers presented by EMS employees under the motto "EMS sets new trends!" The trend presentations were introduced this year by guest speaker Gerald Krainer, General Manager of the electric car company NIO Switzerland. Innovative components made of specialty polymers from EMS are used in NIO vehicles. These include cables for connectors, charging systems in the motor and electronics, but also in cooling and battery systems. A constant temperature of the critical components from the cooling and heating systems, where a water-glycol mixture circulates, is decisive for the range of an electric vehicle. EMS has developed specialty polymers with high chemical resistance for cooling agent pumps, valves and cooling lines used in the thermal management system and is leader in this field. In the rapidly growing field of household temperature control, an increasing number of components, such as the safety valve of heat pumps or parts of the heating circuit manifold are made of EMS specialty polymers, replacing metal. These are resistant to pressure and chemicals as well as exposure to hot and cold water, require only one-third of the energy for manufacturing and save three-quarters of total costs!
As is tradition, the finale of the varied program of the Annual General Meeting was set by the Drum Corps Domat/Ems, in their historic uniforms and led by Drum Major Leandro Spescha.
The Annual General Meeting approved all proposals from the Board of Directors. Shareholders will receive an ordinary divided on CHF 15.75 gross and an extraordinary dividend of CHF 4.25 gross for each dividend-bearing share. Payment of dividends will commence on August 17, 2023.
Re-elected as members of the Board of Directors were Bernhard Merki (Chairman), Magdalena Martullo (Vice Chairman) and Dr. Joachim Streu. Rainer Roten was newly elected to the board. The BDO AG, Zurich, was re-elected as statutory auditor and Dr. Robert K. Däppen was confirmed in office as independent proxy.
In the impressive marquee at the Domat/Ems production site, shareholders and guests were served a tasty three-course lunch. 30 chefs from the Compass Group Switzerland with 110 helpers from the Männerriege Tamins and the Country Women's Association Imboden, were responsible for preparation of 2'800 veal rissoles, 600 kg Maluns (a Swiss potato specialty) and 600 kg mangold leaves. A total of 1000 iceberg lettuce, 45 kg pine seeds, 60 kg alp cheese and 50 kg of onions were prepared.
Following the meal, participants were free to visit the very popular exhibition about the history of EMS-CHEMIE* (more than 30,000 visitors to date) as well as the first Grisons Science Center EMSORAMA** (more than 20,000 visitors to date).
* The exhibition "The unbelievable history of EMS-CHEMIE" is open for group visits of 10 or more people per group free of charge following advance registration. Further information can be found at: www.emschemie.ch/ausstellung. Email: ausstellung@emschemie.ch, or by phone +41 81 632 78 78.
