The future of drinking water safety starts now: From 2027, stricter hygiene rules will come into force with the new EU Drinking Water Directive. Use of brass alloys containing lead, which are no longer permitted in future, will be particularly affected. Already today, EMS-GRIVORY provides high-performance alternatives – approved, reliable and up to 65% cheaper than brass.
Conventional shut-off valve made of brass.
New shut-off valves are made from EMS high-performance polymers, which already comply with future drinking water regulations.
The EU Drinking Water Directive, (DWD 2020/2184), stipulates a significantly lower lead content in brass starting at the end of 2026. This makes approved alloys more expensive, complicates processing and leads to rising overall costs. Numerous thermoplastic materials will also no longer meet the new requirements. EMS-GRIVORY provides solutions for companies affected by these changes.
The specially developed products Grivory FWA and Grilamid FWA already meet the requirements of DWD 2020/2184. This means that brass components can be completely replaced and non-compliant thermoplastics can be substituted without any problems. In the case of brass, cost savings of up to 65% can be achieved thanks to significantly lower volume costs and the elimination of costly post-treatment processes. EMS application technology supports customers with cost calculation and uses comprehensive CAE simulations to show which design adjustments and functional integration provide potential for additional savings.
EMS-GRIVORY high-performance polymers combine certified safety with excellent mechanical properties and a long service life. They provide the ideal alternative to brass or other materials that no longer hold approvals. Tested and proven worldwide, EMS-GRIVORY polymers for the sanitary sector meet all relevant standards:
✔️ EU 10/2011
✔️ KTW-BWGL / DIN 16421
